If you are one of the lucky Apple lovers who have an iPhone 6s, you may be curious about all the wonderful things you can do with your new device. Perhaps you want to learn what new features come with the iPhone 6s, and how to work them.
Here we have outlined what we feel are the greatest new iPhone 6s features, as well as how you can incorporate them into your everyday life.
3D Touch is a new feature exclusive to the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. This feature is similar to the Force Touch feature and combines pressure-sensitive display and haptic feedback for a new user interface. 3D Touch can be used with iOS 9 as well as third party apps, however not all apps support 3D Touch. There are a number of ways you can use 3D Touch that will vastly improve your productivity.
One of the best things you can use 3D Touch for is previewing links from almost anywhere in iOS. When you see a link, press hard on the link and a pop-up preview of the site will appear. Cool huh? Another awesome feature you can use with 3D Touch is quick actions, which provide an action menu when you press down on a home screen icon. Note, not all apps support this. For iOS apps, you can force press on Music, Clock, Photos, Camera, and Notes to name a few to see the action menu.
Live Photos have been a highly anticipated feature when the new iPhones were announced in September. Basically, a live photo will capture 1.5 seconds before and after the photo is taken. Instead of getting one image, you get 45 images that are thrown together to make the photo come to life. If you just got your new iPhone 6s, then you might not know how to use live photos yet, and we have to admit it’s a little confusing.
You can actually use 3D touch to use Live Photos and to view them. For this feature to appear, you have to capture an image with the Live Photo option turned on. Once you are in the camera app, find the Live Photo icon symbolized by a group of rings in the middle of the top menu bar. In the Photos app, just hold down on the image and the photo will come to life. If you want to learn how to take a Live Photo, follow the easy steps below
- Open up the Camera app.
- Make sure that the Live Photo icon in the top center is on (simply press it to enable). Once this is on, the icon will be yellow.
- Tap on the shutter button and you will notice that the Live Photo icon will animate and yellow LIVE label will be displayed.
Some of the best changes have happened to the camera for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and we couldn’t be more impressed. The front camera now has 5 megapixels instead of just 1.2 megapixels. Now you can take way better selfies, higher quality Facetime videos, and Snapchats with your iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. On the back camera Apple has boosted the resolution from 8 megapixels to 12 megapixels. So basically, the camera is prepped to take amazing photos and videos for all different types of purposes.
There are a number of cool things you can try with the new camera. Putting on a shutter timer and controlling the quality of the image is two of our favorite features. For example, if you want to put the shutter timer on for the camera
- Open the camera app and frame your shot.
- Tap on the clock icon at the top and then tap on the shutter button.
- You will see a countdown on the screen after you tap on the shutter button.
Another cool thing you can do with the awesome camera is separate the controls for focus and exposure. To set the exposure manually which taking a photo in the Camera app:
- Tap on the screen to focus when taking a picture.
- Once you’ve set the focus you will see a brightness scale which is the exposure control.
- Dragging your finger along the scale will make your photo either darker or lighter.
