There’s nothing quite like a home cooked meal, right? From preparation, to ingredient integration — baking, sautéing, and frying – cooking can be a production that the whole family can enjoy doing together.

In fact, cooking has become such a popular activity for families, that most have shelves packed with cookbooks — some containing priceless and time-tested family recipes that’ve been handed down from generation to generation.

However, in today’s fast-paced, digital age — with all the hundreds of thousands of apps in the App Store, perhaps it’s not too ridiculous to think about using a digital cookbook, err, an iPad, to help bring those recipes to life? Or, better yet, for following along and creating new dishes altogether.

Lot’s of people do it, after all — though the skepticism surrounding the concept is perhaps understandable. “Well, what if I drop my iPad in the sink or something? My Husband would never forgive me! I don’t care how good that chicken cacciatore turns out!”

Well, friends, the truth is, there are a number of ways to help keep your iPad propped up on the counter while you go about your hedonistic escapades.

Step 1: Get Your iPad Set Up in the Kitchen

Apple’s iPad SmartCover, for instance, is perhaps the most obvious option — which will keep your iPad positioned at a comfortably legible 75-degree angle on the counter. Or, if that doesn’t appeal to you, there’s always the plethora of standalone, 3rd party iPad stands on the market — such as TwelveSouth’s Compass 2 for iPad and iPad mini.

Step 2: Use Free Apps, Video Tutorials, and More to Become a Master Chef

Fortunately, we live in an age of limitless digital content, and therefore, limitless possibility. Websites such as Tasty by BuzzFeed Food, and even Videos by Epicurious are great sources for discovering step-by-step video presentations — showing you how to make delicious, quick, and wholesome meals that the whole family can enjoy.

Just check out this awesome video that shows you how to make “One pan Pesto Chicken Pasta” for a sample of what these presentations are like.

Easy like Sunday morning, right? And, best of all, if you’re having trouble with ingredient measurements, for whatever reason, just remember you can always ask Siri — hands free — for measurement conversions, so you’re always adding exactly the precise amount of salt or pepper or olive oil or what have you to get your culinary masterpiece tasting just right!

In addition, there are a plethora of apps available in Apple’s App Store that provide you with everything you need to make the magic happen in the kitten. (Everything, of course, except the actual food and determination to make it.)

Try one of these great apps to get started, and get your home cooking looking and tasting like the pro’s.
