One of the biggest challenges with shows on Apple TV is how long we often have to wait between seasons. Unlike traditional broadcast shows, where you can pretty much mark your calendar for when an end-of-season cliffhanger will get resolved, Apple’s originals often leave us hanging.

While some of Apple’s hit shows like Slow Horses feature self-contained seasons, leaving fans wanting more only because they enjoy the characters, others like Severance and Silo are far more intense. Sadly, while Severance fans will likely be left waiting another year to find out what becomes of i-Mark and Helly R, we do have some good news for Silo fans who have been left on tenterhooks over Juliette’s fate at the end of Season 2 — and the word comes from “Juliette” herself.

This morning, Silo star Rebecca Ferguson appeared on NBC’s TODAY show, and while she was there primarily to talk about her new film Peaky Blinders, host Craig Melvin couldn’t resist asking her about Silo, and when we can expect to see Season 3 debut.

Ferguson responded with “this summer,” and when Melvin pushed for a more specific date she simply said she couldn’t be more specific, briefly teasing “15th of July” as a joke before conceding that she really doesn’t know precisely when Apple plans to debut it.

To be fair, Ferguson truly may not know, as it’s entirely possible Apple hasn’t finalized its summer schedule yet. Last month, Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) also shared a similarly general “August” release date for season 4 of Apple’s hit comedy, but also hedged by saying she “thinks” it’s August.

When Melvin asked about what we can expect from season 3 of Silo, Ferguson didn’t go into specifics — so no spoilers here — but she did add that it gets better, which she expressed surprise at.

It does get oddly better and better. I find it is unusual for shows to grow and to advance in the stories. I find they usually just kind of fall out, but this one gets better and better.

Silo debuted on May 5, 2023, with the first season running through June 30. It returned for its second season on November 15, 2024, with the season finale airing on January 17, 2025. A summer release for season 3 would represent a slightly longer gap, but the good news is that fans may not have to wait quite as long for the debut of season 4. Last week, Apple reported that both the third and fourth seasons are already in the can, so it’s more about when Apple decides to run what’s expected to be the show’s final season.

Silo is an adaptation of a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey — Wool, Shift, and Dust — and shares an interesting pedigree with Apple’s other ambitious sci-fi series, Foundation. While the latter is based on Isaac Asimov’s significantly better-known works, both struggled to make it to the screen until Apple picked them up and ran with them.

Graham Yost, a writer best known for Speed, Broken Arrow, and Hard Rain, took on the responsibility of bringing Howey’s novels to the screen. Yost also serves as executive producer on other Apple TV hits such as Slow Horses and Masters of the Air.

The first two seasons of Silo cover the events in Wool, although those who have read the book will find the adaptation isn’t entirely literal, and it diverges enough that there are only vague hints in the other two books on what we can expect from seasons 3 and 4. Shift is actually a prequel, and the season 2 finale gave us an idea of how that will be woven into the storyline, but it’s likely the final two seasons will weave Shift and Dust together into a single narrative of flashbacks combined with the ongoing adventures of Juliette Nichols in the future timeline established in the first two seasons.

While Apple has already stated that season 4 will be the finale for the “trilogy,” reports that Howey is working on a fourth book may open the door to a possible fifth season or a sequel. After all, it’s become one of the most popular shows on Apple TV, and as we saw with Ted Lasso, anything is possible if you “Believe.”
