Will Apple Unveil a New 11-inch iPad Pro at WWDC?

Multiple reports have coalesced around rumors that Apple will be introducing new iPad Pro models sometime this year, which could tout a number of next-generation features including powerful Octa-core A11 CPUs, TrueDepth camera systems, and even revamped designs echoing some of the iPhone X’s most celebrated attributes like its nearly edge-to-edge thin-bezeled display.
On Tuesday, a fresh report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News appeared to corroborate some of those rumors (while also laying others to rest), saying that Apple is working to develop a new iPad Pro model boasting a display which could measure in at a full 11-inches.
Citing supply chain sources in the Far East, the Chinese language publication went on to speculate that Apple could unveil the new 11-inch model — alongside a revamped 12.9-inch iPad Pro model — at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) early this June.
Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the current-generation iPad Pro models, which include 10.5- and 12.9-inch ProMotion display-equipped sizes, during last year’s WWDC keynote on June 5.
Unfortunately, while an 11-inch iPad Pro model certainly sounds like a fresh concept, it’s not entirely clear from the EDN report whether the model will truly measure in at a full 11-inches, or whether the unit will merely represent a refreshed 10.5-inch iPad model.
Either way, the timing of its anticipated unveiling at WWDC 2018 coincides with previous analyst reports suggesting that new iPad models are expected sometime in the first-half of the year.
If indeed the 11-inch model does boast a full 11-inch display, however, the sizing would make sense considering the rumors of a revamped thin-bezeled iPad Pro form factor, which could potentially do away with the iconic Home button of iPhone and iPad models past.
Nevertheless, until further notice we recommend taking this rumor with a grain of salt, especially since EDN hasn’t historically been the most reliable source of information pertaining to Apple’s upcoming product plans.
In addition to the new 11-inch iPad Pro rumor, Tuesday morning’s report appears to dismiss the idea that Apple will be introducing a refreshed iPhone SE 2 at WWDC too.
