Sure, we’re still in the rumors stage when it comes to the iPhone 16, but that doesn’t mean we can’t entertain rumors about 2025’s iPhone 17. Right? Right?

On Wednesday, often reliable display industry expert Ross Young shared on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter that he’s been told that the “iPhone 17 Plus” will sport a slightly smaller screen than the 6.7-inch display on the current iPhone 15 Plus. Young did not specify the exact screen size for the iPhone 17 Plus.

Apple’s iPhone Plus models have boasted the same sized screens as their Pro Max counterparts since Apple introduced the new size to the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022. However, if Young’s sources are correct, the smaller screen on the iPhone 17 Plus would help further differentiate it from the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

What’s interesting is that Apple may already be setting the two models apart by increasing the size of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Last May, Young said that Apple plans to produce 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max this year, while the displays on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will continue to measure in at the same 6.1 and 6.7 inches as their iPhone 15 predecessors.

Just to make things a bit clearer, here’s a summary of the current iPhone 15 lineup’s screen sizes, as well as the screen sizes we may see for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 lineup. However, keep in mind that things could change between now and September — and they could definitely change between now and September 2025.

Ross Young has been accurate in the past about display-related rumors. In March 2023, Young said a new 15-inch M2-powered MacBook Air was on the way and that Apple’s supply chain had started production of 15-inch display panels for the new MacBook Air. While Young’s prediction of the new MacBook Air was slightly off, as the 15-inch MacBook Air debuted in June 2023, he was correct that the new MacBook Air was on the way.
