Apple’s current-generation iPhone XR already features stellar battery life – but its upcoming replacement will gain an additional power boost this year.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Contemporary Amperex Technology has begun mass-producing the 2019 iPhone XR2’s updated battery. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the China-based company has supplied Apple with batteries for some time now. But more importantly, how big will the new battery be?

iPhone XR2 Battery mAh

TheElec suggests that the new iPhone XR2’s battery pack will be 3,110mAh. That’s an improvement over the 2,942mAh battery that 2018’s iPhone XR launched with (and is roughly a 5% increase).

5% doesn’t seem like much; but truthfully, we’ll take a battery life improvement wherever we can get it.

Even with the improved battery, it isn’t the largest cell that Apple has ever used in an iPhone. The iPhone XS Max’s battery tops out at 3,171mAh but is constructed in a unique multi-cell L-shape to fit inside the device.

Although the XR has a physically smaller single-cell battery, it’s been shown that the XR’s battery lasts longer than the XS Max’s. This is believed to be because of the XR’s lower quality display, which uses less power to run.

The iPhone XR2 will likely be available with two new color options, including Purple and Neon Green. Coral and Blue have been rumored to be axed for 2019.
