‘iPhone SE’ Promotional Video Rumor Hints at the Inclusion of a 4K Camera

A new rumor currently circulating ahead of Apple’s March 21st special event — whereat the almost inevitable unveiling of the long-rumored 4-inch ‘iPhone SE’ will take place — suggests that the device might feature a high-definition iSight camera system capable of recording video in 4K.
Although we’re unable to fully validate the claims at this time, several tipsters have alleged that the Cupertino-company is currently working on a promotional video for the forthcoming iPhone SE, within which the 4-inch device is touted for its imaging prowess. More specifically, the promo is said to feature footage captured in 4K resolution, shot entirely on the yet-to-be-unveiled, though highly anticipated handset.
The individual also reported that, although it’s uncertain if Apple will have the video ready in time for next week’s debut, the Silicon Valley iPhone maker had several employees “on scene,” live in New York City, capturing exclusive footage for the video using the forthcoming device.
If indeed this new rumor turns out to be true, it would imply that Apple’s forthcoming ‘iPhone SE’ is actually poised to be more akin to the company’s bread-and-butter, flagship iPhone 6s than was previously expected. Earlier rumors indicated that the 4-inch iPhone would feature only a few, modest upgrades over the iPhone 5s — just to ensure that that company doesn’t chip away at the iPhone 6s’ marketshare, by creating a smaller device that’s almost identical to its big brother.
Although, with the highly anticipated launch date just days away, the rumor mill is starting to foretell of a device that compares more with the iPhone 6s than the 5s. Of course, while the iPhone SE is not expected to feature the 6s and 6s Plus’ 3D Touch pressure sensing technology, it is expected to boast an NFC module for Apple Pay, in addition to a 12-megapixel iSight camera and support for Live Photos.
The last rumor indicating the possibility of 4K video on the iPhone SE came back in February, when it was first reported that the Cupertino-company’s A9 SoC would power the revamped 4-inch device. The A9 SoC, which debuted alongside the iPhone 6s last fall, is a slice of silicon excellence — featuring a slew of deeply integrated image processing capabilities that easily facilitate 4K video recording at 30 frames per second, as well as 1080p “slow motion” at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.
As always, however, we recommend taking this new rumor with a grain of salt — at least for the next few days. After all, Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off its 4-inch ‘iPhone SE’, as well as a new 9.7-inch ‘iPad Pro’ at a special media event being held next Monday, March 21st, beginning at 10 a.m. PST.
We’ll be covering the event as it unfolds, too, so be sure to check back later that day to find out the scoop!
