Apple first introduced mouse support in iOS 13 and is expected to expand that support in iOS 14. The next version of iOS possibly could add cursor support, which will bring a desktop-like mouse experience to the iPad.

Rumor suggests Apple is working on a smart keyboard for the iPad Po. The keyboard is said to include a trackpad that’ll work with the cursor feature spotted in a leaked version of iOS 14 obtained by 9to5Mac.

Some of the rumored mouse features would let iPad owners use a mouse or a trackpad like they do on a Mac. A two-fingered tap could emulate a right-click while a single tap could function as a click. Also similar to Mac, the rumored iPad cursor may change from a standard arrow to a hand or other symbol when hovering over different content.

Apple recognizes that the keyboard is not the only way to interact with the device, so the cursor supposedly isn’t persistent like it is on a Mac. When an attached mouse or trackpad is dormant, the cursor will disappear. It will reappear when the mouse or trackpad is activated again.

The iOS 14 codebase also contains references to two different keyboard model identifiers. The presence of two identifiers suggests Apple’s new ?Smart Keyboard? with Trackpad may be compatible with both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models.

We don’t know what the keyboard will look like, but this and other rumors suggest it will have a typical layout with a trackpad positioned below the keyboard.
