Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated in April that Apple had paused the development of its 30″ iMac, which would replace the outdated 27″ iMac. The M1X is likely to go into this machine, but a lot of questions still remain.

Is the iMac Pro going to have that wild curved design that was rumored, or is it just going to be a larger 24″ model with black bezels?

Let me answer that for you.

First, Apple is taking a new approach with the iMac.

In April 2021 Apple only released the iMac 24″, the redesigned replacement for the 21.5″ iMac. Then, in February of 2021, Apple discontinued the 2017 iMac Pro, which was the only iMac to come in Space Gray. With that, they discontinued the Space Gray accessories as well.

That led to speculation that a new iMac Pro was going to be released at a spring event, but all we got was a 24″ iMac with the August 2020 Intel models still on sale.

Does that mean that the new iMac will be called iMac Pro? That is most likely correct, and it will come with the M1X chip like the new MacBook Pros and the new Mac mini to replace the Intel versions.

This will be the first significant refresh to the iMac Pro since it is a new design and not just an Intel spec bump.

The design is a bit different from the 24″ iMac – and just like the 24″ iMac, Apple will round it up to an even number 30″, with the actual screen size being 29.5″ (two inches larger than 27″). Remember, the iMac 24″ is about two inches larger than its predecessor.

The new computer will be a pro-consumer machine, so I’m not expecting any fun colors on this one. Black bezels make sense, but personally, I want to see some of the iPhone 13 Pro’s colors on this device. But I wouldn’t count on it.

Will it have a chin? Probably – and here’s my reasoning. Just like with the 24″ iMac, they will put the small logic board and thermals inside of the chin, and its two fans, as well as the M1X Apple Silicon chip. The bezels will be thinner than the 24″ iMac, though, due to it being the flagship Apple all-in-one desktop.

Are you excited about Apple’s new Mac designs, especially the new iMac Pro? Let me know in the comments.
