When it comes to customising the Apple Watch, faces are one of the best ways of making the high-end smartwatch your own. However, since the launch of the first Apple Watch in 2015, Apple has been the only company able to develop faces for the device.

Of course, you can create your own Watch face by choosing an item from your photo library, but the fact remains that third-party developers have been excluded from this ability. But soon, that could be set to change.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, new code in the upcoming Apple Watch developer’s build suggests that the tech giant will soon let third-parties create faces.

Within the watchOS 4.3.1 code, there is a log message that says “this is where the 3rd party face config bundle generation would happen”.

Of course, such a line doesn’t mean that Apple will actually go ahead and let developers put out their own Watch faces – although it would definitely be a great way for the company to give users more personalisation options.

There’s no release date for the update, but considering the fact that Apple is likely to unveil watchOS 5 at WWDC in June, it should happen soon.
