Apple is largely expected to debut a new “iPhone SE 2” early next year. But thus far, it hasn’t been clear how much that device might cost. Now, reliable TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is predicting that the upcoming entry-level 64GB smartphone will start at only $399.

Kuo’s new research note, which was published over the weekend, also corroborates other details of the upcoming smartphone that he had previously forecast.

iPhone SE 2 Specs and Design

The so-called iPhone SE 2 will sport Apple’s latest A13 chipset, which packs an incredibly powerful performance punch.

It’ll also ship with 3GB of RAM, which is equivalent to the memory in Apple’s iPhone X or iPhone XR handsets.

Unfortunately for fans of Apple’s 4-inch form factor, the upcoming “iPhone SE 2” will likely be more of a spiritual successor to the previous generation rather than a direct revamp. According to Kuo, the device’s footprint and design will be more similar to the iPhone 8 than the actual iPhone SE.

That’s because, as Kuo points out, the target market for the upcoming device is apparently owners of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices. Apple’s latest iOS 13 update has left those devices behind as far as compatibility.

  • As far as other specifications, Kuo suggests that the device could come in Space Gray, Silver and Red color options.
  • He says it’ll be available in 64 and 128GB models.
  • And, like the entire 2019 lineup, it’ll likely lack 3D Touch in favor of Haptic Touch.

iPhone SE 2 rumors have been fairly numerous over the past couple of years, with many of them suggesting that the device could essentially be an iPhone SE with an iPhone X-style design. Those rumors have died down amidst reports that Apple may have scrapped that particular prototype.

In any case, while the “iPhone SE 2” may not make 4-inch handset fans happy, it should still offer plenty of “bang for the buck.”

If the 64GB starts at $399, the 128GB model could be priced as low at $449. (That’s based on Apple’s current iPhone 8 storage offerings.)

Kuo continues to expect that the iPhone SE 2 will launch in the first quarter of 2020 — in other words, between January and March of next year.
