In April 2021 Apple announced the all-new iMac 24”, but the Magic Mouse was not redesigned. Instead, it was the same old Magic Mouse design from 2009 that was introduced with the then-new unibody iMac. That is all said to be changing within Apple Park, according to the people familiar with the matter.

This new mouse is supposed to follow Apple’s latest “design trends,” but there is another prototype with MagSafe – although that design looks similar to the current mouse that we’ve had for a very long time. This design uses the MagSafe puck that is soon coming to iPad in 2022.

This MagSafe mouse still cannot be used while charging, according to our sources.

Apple has wanted a mouse with MagSafe capabilities since the introduction of the Magic Mouse in 2009 – but at the time, Apple didn’t have the resources to do it. That led to Lightning being added to the bottom of the mouse in 2012 which caused much controversy.

The addition of MagSafe won’t fix the “using vs. charging” problem, but it will still give users a simpler way to charge.

Either way, it is time for a new Apple Magic Mouse, as third parties like Logitech are getting more consumer dollars for their unique Mac accessories.

The new Apple Magic Mouse is said to take design cues from the iPad Pro, iPhone 13, iMac, and MacBook Pro. The more “retro” design language makes sense. Apple could give us something that looks like the original Macintosh mouses, but bring them into the modern era.

We’re very happy Apple is allegedly working on a new mouse. Are you excited, too?
