During April’s Spring Loaded event, Apple finally announced its new iMac. This new iMac features a brand new design, up to seven beautiful colors, and a 4.5K Retina display. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Most Powerful iMac Yet

Apple continues to update the processor on all of its computers, and the iMac is no exception. The 2021 iMac joins the Apple Silicon family with its new M1 processor, the same one you can find on the current-generation MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

This new chip makes the new iMac the most powerful iMac in existence. Apple claims this new computer is up to 85% faster than the previous-generation iMac when working in apps like Xcode, iMovie, or Lightroom.

Likewise, thanks to the 8-core CPU in the M1 Chip, the 2021 iMac has two times faster GPU when working in apps like Affinity Pro, and it works 50% faster than the older 21-inch iMac when editing pictures using Photoshop. In a few words, this is the most powerful iMac in existence.

Beautiful New Design and up to Seven Colors to Choose From

The M1 chip allowed Apple to improve the design on the new iMac as well. Now, the iMac is just 11.5 millimeters thin.

As the leaks and speculations said, the new iMac has a design similar to the Apple Pro Display XDR, with the difference is that it now comes in seven new different colors. You can choose green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

Amazing 4.5K Retina Display

Another thing that’s improved is the display. The new iMac comes with a 24-inch display with narrower bezels across the way. The display isn’t only bigger, but it’s also crispier. The iMac features a 4.5K Retina display with 11.3 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, and a P3 wide color gamut. This means the iMac shows a bright, vivid image with over a billion colors.

The new display also has True Tone technology, which will adjust the colors on the screen depending on the environment.

The Best Camera, Mic, and Speakers on a Mac

Apple focused heavily on the new camera, microphone, and speakers on the new iMac. The iMac will have a 1080P FaceTime HD camera, the best one on any iMac. It comes with a larger light sensor for better images in low light.

It also features an Image Signal Processor, or ISP, which helps create more intelligent exposure, better video clarity, and more details in bright highlights and dark shadows.

In addition to the camera, the new iMac also has a studio-quality three microphone array that is positioned to reduce feedback. At the same time, the directional beamforming helps the mics focus more on your voice while avoiding background noise.

The 2021 iMac also features a six-speaker system with strong and clear sound and better bass. These speakers, combined with advanced algorithms enable the iMac to support Spatial Audio when playing videos with Dolby Atmos.

There Are New Keyboard and Mouse Options, Too

Like the new iMac, the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad are getting new features and colors.

You’ll be able to choose between three different Magic Keyboard models, including a new model that comes with Touch ID.

For the first time, you’ll be able to unlock your keyboard, use Apple Pay, or switch between users in a flash with the help of the integrated Touch ID on the Magic Keyboard.

Touch ID communicates directly with Secure Enclave in the M1 chip, which creates an encrypted channel to protect your fingerprint and identity.

The Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad didn’t get any new features, but they now come in similar colors to the iMac, so you can match them.

Pro Levels of Connectivity

The new iMac features state-of-the-art connectivity features with up to four USB-C ports that support up to 6K display, similar to what the Pro Display XDR can do for the Mac Pro.

A cool new feature is that the power connector attaches magnetically to the iMac and has a two-meter cord that feeds into a small power adapter. That power adapter has an additional port to connect your iMac to an ethernet connection.

When Is the New iMac Coming Out?

You can order the 2021 iMac on April 30th, and it’ll ship in the second half of May.

The iMac will come in at two prices, a 7-core GPU iMac with an 8-core CPU, 8GB of memory, and 256GB of storage for $1,299. This model will only come in four colors: green, pink, blue, and silver.

On the other hand, there’s an 8-core GPU iMac model with an 8-core CPU, 8GB of unified memory, and 256GB of storage for $1,499. This model will be available in all seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. The 512GB version is available for $200 more.
