When Apple first introduced the HomePod in June of 2017, I have to say I was pretty excited about it. In fact, I ended up buying one that I still own to this day. Its sound is impressive, although Siri needs some serious updates. The microphones work surprisingly well, and watching movies with two of them is something great I can’t fully describe. Sadly, Apple discontinued the HomePod in March of 2021 to focus on the HomePod mini.

I have to say I really like the mini, but it is not even close to what the regular HomePod could do. Fortunately, Apple plans to start the development of a new HomePod soon, and I’m going to tell you what my sources know about it.

Apple plans to introduce a new HomePod similar to what the regular HomePod offered.

Apple will eventually release a substitute for the HomePod mini, but that’s not what we are talking about today.

The company wants to fully redesign this device; in fact, there are engineers working on adding a full-sized display to this new HomePod. Think of it as an iPad with a speaker attached to it.

The primary function it would serve would be to display information the user might ask Siri, like the weather or a timer. My sources suggest this display won’t necessarily be tactile, and Apple may promote the Apple Music Voice plan with it.

As far as I’m concerned, the Cupertino-based company could release this device as soon as September of 2023, although I am pretty sure Apple will delay it due to the current situation with its supply chain.

My sources suggest Apple wants to include the A13 or the A14 inside the device to manage all the requests from the user and the display.

I’m not sure about this one, but I suppose Apple won’t release a new operating system for this, and it will just run a modified version of HomePodOS and it will be compatible with HomeKit.

Don’t expect this device to be cheap. My sources say the company is aiming at a $499 price tag. I might buy it if it is as good as it’s looking now. I don’t have more details now because it is too early, but as soon as my sources tell me more about this device, you’ll be the first to know. Stay tuned.
