Apple to Launch New, 15-inch MacBook Air? Sources Say Yes (For the Most Part)

According to a recent report by Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple could be working on a 15-inch MacBook Air. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a device like this, but the rumor now comes from DSCC’s Ross Young, one of the most accurate technology analysts and leakers worldwide.

To be honest, I didn’t know anything about it, so I asked my sources what they thought of this new MacBook Air. They took a while to answer, but they finally shared some details with me.

First of all, they don’t think Apple will call this device “MacBook Air,” my sources feel “MacBook” is more suitable according to what they know, although this is something that the company won’t decide until late 2022 at best. 

According to people familiar with the matter, Apple has yet to decide what the final design of this MacBook will be. However, the Cupertino-based company aims toward a super-thin flat device with no fans, just like the new MacBook Air that will be announced later this year, but bigger. 

There are current prototypes in different color options, as far as I know. My sources say they’ve seen gray, silver, and gold, although they add that this isn’t relevant since Apple tests dozens of them until the company actually chooses to release the final product. I don’t want to claim those are the definitive colors since this usually doesn’t happen. 

Do you remember the rumors about the dark bronze iPhone 13 Pro? It didn’t happen, and I even saw a prototype in that color.

These sources say they’ve seen slightly different designs, but they all follow the same pattern, so I wouldn’t expect a very different design from what I just described to you. Thin and flat. 

I have no current information on whether the 15-inch MacBook will have a notch or not, but given that Apple is adding it to all the portable Macs, I find it hard to believe Apple won’t include it on this device too. I just hope it isn’t white.

As far as I know, this device isn’t scheduled to be shipped until 2023 at best. I don’t know anything about its price yet, but I’ll make sure to let you know as soon as I receive more information.
