Comparing the Competition

Compared to its competitors, the iPhone Smart Battery Case has a number of features that you aren’t going to find anywhere else, but at $99 it is worth taking a lot at the competition to make sure it’s the right case for you.

Most of you have heard of Mophie, who has been the leading name in iPhone battery cases before Apple took the plunge. Mophie’s offerings are similar in price to the iPhone Smart Battery Case, but they pack a much larger punch than Apple’s offering. The Mophie Juice Pack Air, its $99 offering, features a 2,750mAh battery, which knocks the socks off of the 1,877mAh battery in the iPhone Smart Battery Case. The trade off compared to Apple’s case is the software integration and the simplicity in functionality.

The Juice Pack Air has an on and off switch so it’s not a plug up and go option like Apple’s. I imagine there have been plenty of people who have plugged up a Mophie case to realize two hours later that they never turned it on.

If the $99 price tag is more than you’re willing to spend on a battery case both Mophie and Anker, another highly regarded accessory maker, have offerings worth mentioning. The Mophie Juice Pack Reserve packs a 1,840mAh battery and will only run you $59. B

ut my recommendation for the budget conscience among you is the Anker Ultra Slim Extended Battery Case. Currently, this case is $39.99 on Amazon, and for a 2,850mAh battery, this case is a steal.

Final Thoughts

If the design of the iPhone Smart Battery Case isn’t a deal breaker and you don’t mind spending the Apple premium on a battery case, this is a smart option with some convenient features. Compared to its competitors, the design is thinner and sleeker, and the materials feel a bit more premium.

If you are simply looking for a bulky battery case with the biggest battery and the best bang for your buck, then I would suggest passing on Apple’s offering and considering one of the other cases I mentioned earlier.
