Apple released the third OS X 10.11.4 beta to testers today, alongside the third watchOS 2.2 beta. Both beta versions seem to focus more on “under the hood” improvements – fixing bugs on features that were introduced in previous beta versions.

The third OS X 10.11.4 beta comes to us roughly two weeks after the second beta was released. It’s unclear if any new features have been made available to developers since the second or first beta versions of OS X 10.11.4, which saw the additions of several new features.

The first beta introduced the ability to password protect notes in the Notes app, and improved support for Live Photos in the Messages app. This beta release likely focuses on performance and stability enhancements – however, if any new features pop up we will certainly let you know.

The third watchOS 2.2 Beta was also made available to developers today, also likely focusing on bug fixes and performance enhancements. The first watchOS 2.2 beta introduced the ability to pair multiple Apple Watches to a single iPhone, and showed off a revamped Maps app, with shortcuts for navigating to home or work, as well as a new Nearby feature powered by Yelp. Once again we will let you know if any new features are discovered during beta testing.

Both updates are available to developers immediately via the usual methods, and public betas for those in the public beta program will likely be released soon. OS X 10.11.4 has been in beta testing since January 11, and a current release date is unknown. The release date for watchOS 2.2 is also unclear, although many speculate that it may release alongside several new Apple Watch bands at a March 15th Apple Event that will also see the release of a new 4-inch iPhone and the iPad Air 3.
