Every year, Apple has made the tradition of releasing a new iPhone during the fall. So it’s not surprising that we already know the iPhone 15 is going to come out at the end of this year.

And while the iPhone 15 is rumored to bring a lot of cool new features, it’s still a few months away before you can actually buy it.

Fortunately, you can still get Apple’s latest and greatest with the iPhone 14 lineup. If you can’t wait at all for a new iPhone, the iPhone 14 should be your go-to choice right now.

But what about the rest of us who can actually wait for a new iPhone? Will waiting for the iPhone 15 be actually worth it, or should you just buy the iPhone 14 now and forget about the future? Keep reading to find out.

Pros: Why You Should Buy the iPhone 14 Right Now

As of right now, the iPhone 14 lineup has some of, if not the best, smartphones in the market.

Starting at $799, you can get the base iPhone 14 with an amazing camera system—similar to the one on the iPhone 13 Pro models—and a performance machine, albeit it still has the older A15 Bionic Chip the iPhone 13 has.

If you decide to go for one of the iPhone 14 Pro models, you’ll start to see some great changes. For starters, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max carry the newer A16 Bionic chip, which is Apple’s best chip so far—that is, until the company launches the A17 Bionic chip.

On the outside, you’ll notice a big difference in the Pro models: the notch is more interactive than ever.

Apple introduced a new feature called Dynamic Island, which basically lets you use the areas around the notch as widgets you can interact with. Sure, you’ll still have a notch, albeit a smaller one, but you’ll be able to use your iPhone in new and cool ways.

Aditionally, Apple also introduced some amazing safety features like crash detection and Emergency SOS via satellite, which will become a paid service in two years, but you can use it for free right now.

Cons: Why You Shouldn’t Get the iPhone 14

While the iPhone 14 lineup is fantastic, it’s far from perfect. Unfortunately, the design of the iPhone 14 is pretty similar to the iPhone 13’s, which is also pretty similar to the iPhone 12’s.

Apple has had the tendency to use a pretty similar design across all its devices for a few years. If you’re looking to buy a new iPhone for that crazy new look and feel, the iPhone 14 might not be the best option.

Additionally, if you plan on getting the base iPhone 14, you’ll get the older A15 Bionic chip. As we mentioned, it’s the same processor Apple introduced with the iPhone 13.

All this is not to say the iPhone 14 lineup is bad, but if you’re willing to wait, you might get a better bang for your buck.

Why You Should Wait for the iPhone 15

If even half the iPhone 15 rumors end up being true, you’ll surely want to wait to get a new iPhone.

For starters, do you remember the Dynamic Island we mentioned before? Well, rumor has it that all the iPhone 15 models will come with a Dynamic Island, so you’ll be able to enjoy one of the coolest features the iPhone has had in a while without the extra price.

Speaking of price, there are many rumors that say the base iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Max will actually be cheaper this year. But, before you get excited, rumors also say the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max—which might also be called iPhone 15 Ultra—will be more expensive this year

Of course, that price bump will be there for a reason. The iPhone 15 Pro models are said to feature the new A17 Bionic chip, feature a brand new design, and they might even finally get a USB-C port, which would be a first on any iPhone ever.

Unfortunately, the basic iPhone 15 models will still feature a lightning port and the A16 Bionich chip—which, as of right now, is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Additionally, rumors say that Apple will bump the RAM for the Pro models as well. Instead of the 6 GB of RAM we’re used to, Apple might increase it to 8 GB.

Not only that, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start with 265 GB of storage—rumors say the iPhone 15 Pro will keep the 128 GB base storage.

It’s Time to Play the Waiting Game

There’s no doubt that the iPhone 14 lineup is amazing, but it could be a lot better.

If you can’t wait at all to get a new iPhone, or you really don’t care about the extra new features, then you can’t go wrong with the iPhone 14. The performance is one of the best, you’ll take beautiful, high-quality photos, and you can be sure that your iPhone will work smoothly for the next years.

On the other hand, if you can play the waiting game, the iPhone 15 is the right choice. Most rumors point out that the new iPhone will have amazing features, a lower price—at least for the base models—more RAM, and the best processor Apple offers right now.

For most people, we recommend that you wait around, save some money, and get Apple’s best iPhone yet as soon as it comes out.
