These leaks often come fast furious ahead of a launch as Apple begins to share details about its upcoming phones with case and accessory manufacturers.
Inevitably some of these schematics and specifications make their way outside of sealed conference rooms providing us with insight into Apple’s upcoming iPhones.
The three dummy models represent three sizes of the rumored iPhone 12 models, including the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 with a dual-camera, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both Pro models include the bump for the triple camera module. The only missing model is the rumored lower-end 6.1-inch iPhone 12 with a dual camera.
All three dummy phones have a design that mimics the iPhone 4 with a square-edged frame and glass on the front and back. The square edges are a significant change from the rounded edges Apple has been using since the iPhone 6.
Apple has worked its magic on the 5.4-inch iPhone 12. Though the iPhone 12’s display is larger than the 4.7-inch 2020 iPhone SE, the overall size of the 5.4-inch Phone 12 is significantly smaller. Apple achieved this smallness by getting rid of the bezels around the display and switching to Face ID instead of the space-consuming Touch ID home button.
Reportedly, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 dummy has a size and feel similar to the 6.1-inch iPhone 11 and slightly larger than the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro as expected.
The 6.7-inch iPhone 12 is “noticeably larger” than the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max.
No LiDAR scanners were included on the dummies since case makers don’t need to know what’s inside the camera hump, just where it is and how large it will be.
