Early reviews for this year’s trio of iPhones are starting to roll in. And while they have a relatively short list of new features, they are massive upgrades in a few key areas. And if battery life is high up on your list of priorities, you’ll be happy to know that the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro models are a huge upgrade.

iPhone 11 Battery Specs

Apple says the iPhone 11 Pro’s battery will last up to four hours longer than the iPhone XS and the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s battery lasts up to five hours longer than the iPhone XS Max. The iPhone 11 has a 1-hour battery life boost, compared to the iPhone XR.

Of course, the comparison statistics may not be all that useful if you don’t own of the previous devices. Luckily, Apple has more specific battery life estimates in the tech specs of each iPhone model. Here’s how they break down.

  1. iPhone 11 Pro: Up to 18 hours of video playback, 11 hours of video streaming and 65 hours of audio playback.
  2. iPhone 11 Pro Max: Up to 20 hours of video playback, 12 hours of video streaming video and 80 hours of audio playback.
  3. iPhone 11: Up to 17 hours of video playback, 10 hours of video streaming and 65 hours of audio playback.

As far as hard numbers, Apple never really releases the actual mAh capacity for its devices. But a pair of past reports indicate that the iPhones have the following battery capacities:

  1. iPhone 11 Pro: 3,190mAh
  2. iPhone 11 Pro Max: 3,500mAh
  3. iPhone 11: 3,110mAh

The batteries are actually larger across the board. And Apple has, interestingly, made its devices slightly larger and heavier to accommodate for that.

iPhone 11 Battery Life Reviews

Of course, specifications and promises don’t mean much if the devices don’t perform in real-world scenarios. Luckily, virtually every review that we’ve seen has confirmed Apple’s battery life promises.

The Verge’s Nilay Patel reports that his iPhone 11 Pro Max model consistently lasted about 12 to 14 hours — a bump from the 8 to 10 hours on the iPhone XS Max last year. He added that “… it’s a big bump, and it’s better than most Android phones we’ve tested.”

When he tested the $699 iPhone 11’s battery, Patel indicated that it easily lasted about a full day. While it’s not a big jump like the Pro models, it still features “great” battery life like its Phone XR predecessor.

Chris Velazco, for Engadget, says that his iPhone 11 Pro also saw similar improvements. Velazco’s iPhone 11 Pro lasts about 12 hours per charge (up from 9 to 9.5 hours on the iPhone XS).

TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino also said that the iPhone 11 Pro that he tested consistently showed that Apple’s claims of battery life improvements were “nearly dead-on.” He added that his iPhone 11 Pro also came in at about 12 hours a charge even in “extremely challenging conditions”

iPhone 11 Release Date

The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are currently available for preorder through Apple’s website and the Apple Store app. All three models will officially launch this Friday, Sept. 20, when they’ll start arriving on customer doorsteps and at brick-and-mortar retail locations.
