Here’s What’s New in iOS 12 Developer Beta 6

Apple on Monday released the sixth beta version of its upcoming iOS 12 operating system update. And while the new beta doesn’t change a lot, there are still some notable additions.

It’s only been a week since Apple rolled out iOS 12 beta 5. We’re also rapidly approaching the general release of iOS 12 itself, so these latter beta versions are likely focused on tightening up and improving the operating system rather than introducing significant changes or features.

Changes in iOS 12 Beta 6

• iOS 12 beta 6 adds a slew of new splash screens to core Apple apps. The company typically adds these splash screens in major software updates to let users know about new features and changes, and iOS 12 isn’t any different. While previous beta versions of iOS 12 have added other splash screens, today’s release seems to add new ones for the App Store, iTunes Store, Books, TV, and Music apps, according to hands-on reports of the new beta.

• Many of the iOS wallpapers have been reordered and the stable of wallpapers that was introduced in iOS 10 have reportedly been pulled from the update.
• The Home app has also seen some new gradient color-style wallpapers, while the previous ones have been removed.

• The update also makes some minor UI changes, including some font tweaks in Maps; a new AirPlay icon when listening to music wirelessly; and a new location for the “Notification close” button when an iPhone is in landscape mode.

Beta 6 should be now available to registered Apple developers through the Developer Portal or as an over-the-air update.

iOS 12 Overview

iOS 12 is a major update to Apple’s mobile operating system. It will introduce major features, including the following:

• Performance and stability improvements across all compatible devices.
• Group FaceTime with support for up to 32 participants.
• New Animoji and customizable Memoji characters.
• A suite of “digital health tools,” including a new Screen Time app and additional features for Do Not Disturb.
• A slew of updates to Siri, including a new voice-activated automation app called Shortcuts and contextual reminders.

iOS 12 will roll out to the general public as a free update in the fall.
