Fall is a special time of year for many reasons. But for die-hard iPhone fans the advent of autumn also presents a unique opportunity to upgrade their hardware — and so, the contentious question ensues: is it really worth upgrading my current iPhone to Apple’s latest and greatest iPhone yet?

Of course, while one’s personal answer to that question will vary depending on a number of factors — such as considerations of cost, benefit, or whether your current iPhone is in good-enough, working condition — it’s worth noting that Apple has changed the game quite a bit this year with its iPhone 8 and upcoming iPhone X flagships — all of which run of the company’s beastly A11 Bionic CPU.

The A11 is a true powerhouse, boasting a total of six CPU cores; and while the specifications are still shrouded in secrecy, early benchmarks have revealed that, at least on paper, the iPhone 8 Plus absolutely demolishes its predecessor — not to mention, the leading competition, too.

To give you a visual of just how the A11 stacks up, we invite you to check out the YouTube video below, which was provided courtesy of EverythingApplePro that offers a comprehensive, side-by-side visual speed test comparison between the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus.

Interestingly, while the iPhone 8 Plus appears to handily crush its predecessor in a number of app loading, switching, and general navigation tasks (as should be expected, right?), the iPhone 7 Plus, ironically enough, appears to pull ahead of the iPhone 8 in several instances.

Of course, this could be due to a number of factors, such as which version of iOS the handsets are running; however it is certainly worth noting that the iPhone 8 Plus, even as powerful as it currently is, will only get even more powerful from here on out with software optimization. That’s because future iOS 11 updates will undoubtedly provide users with a wealth of performance, stability, and security enhancements across the platform.

Those who own an A11-equipped handset like the iPhone 8 Plus, with its powerful augmented reality (AR) capabilities, advanced neural engine, and custom GPU will certainly begin to take notice of the speed difference during normal and processor intensive usage.
