There is still plenty of time before the iPhone 7 is official, and there are a slew of rumors floating around on what the device’s appearance and hardware will entail. A post on Weibo, a Chinese micro-blogging site, highlights one of the latest rumors that show an alleged photo of the iPhone 7 with an edge-to-edge display. (Featured Photo: Martin Hajek)

It isn’t always easy to discern which rumors have credibility or not, so each one must be taken into consideration before being deemed true. Unfortunately for the people who speculated about the device on Weibo, the photo showing the edge-to-edge display of the rumored iPhone 7 is most likely a fake.

As 9to5Mac points out, there are several inconsistencies. One of the more obvious ones is the black line at the bottom right side of the image that shows the screen is not straight, a major sign that the photo was probably Photoshopped. That area is also more pixelated than the rest of the image, adding further to our suspicions of its authenticity. Although it does appear that the top and bottom chins look unchanged, this major design change is not currently supported by any other rumors.

We are assuming that this photo was of an iPhone 6s with some edits on the front of the phone. If this image was legitimate, we would see the line make a solid straight edge with the white bezel. There are also no other photos of this device from any other angle, which only further our doubts.

Although we would love to see Apple come out with an edge-to-edge display, it’s most likely not going to happen with the next iPhone release. We have heard other rumors about the iPhone 7 having curved display and a lack of headphone jack which may indicate some of the physical changes that Apple wants to implement with their newest iPhone. We suspect that Apple isn’t willing to make any major design changes to the iPhone until next year. We hope to see more details about the newest iPhone in the coming months before Apple’s next event in September.
