It’s not uncommon for a freshly minted, hot-off-the-press software update to be laden with bugs and UI glitches. However, very seldom do we hear of a new software update rendering a device ‘bricked’, err, unusable altogether.

Nevertheless, when it comes to technology, anything is possible right? That being said, according to several media reports and user complaints that were lodged on Apple’s support forums within the last day or so, several iPad Pro owners appear to be reporting that updating to the latest version of iOS 9.3.2 — which was released just the other day — is rendering their tablets defunct.

Several Apple support forum users have indicated that, after installing the latest iOS 9.3.2 update, their 9.7-inch iPad Pro units will reboot, automatically asking them to connect the device to iTunes via USB. However, once that’s done, their devices remain still inaccessible — unable to be restored. As noted by Ireland-based news outlet, The Journal, Apple identifies this scenario as a quote unquote “Error 56” message — which, in laymen terms, is simply a general hardware error.

Fortunately, Apple was swift to acknowledge the presence of an “Error 56” issue this morning, shortly after the news of it broke late yesterday afternoon — and that the issue does, indeed, seem to be affecting “a small number” of iPad Pro users.

As far as an imminent and viable solution to the issue is pertinent, Apple has warned users who have yet to update their iPad Pros to the latest version of iOS, to simply refrain from doing so until the company is able to release a second update to patch Error 56.

The Silicon Valley iPad-maker also recommended, in an official press release on the matter posted to its website this morning, that users who have been affected by Error 56 either contact Apple support, or bring their iPad Pro into their local Apple store and speak with a genius bar representative. The company also indicated that it is looking into the issue, and hopes to have it resolved as expediently as possible.

All that being said, if you just so happen to own one of Apple’s latest and greatest, 9.7-inch iPad Pros — and it has NOT been updated to iOS 9.3.2 yet, we highly recommend holding off until the Cupertino-company releases the next software patch.

Fortunately, users of either Apple’s 12.9-inch or 9.7-inch iPad Pro are still covered under the company’s limited 1-year product warranty — and therefore, affected users can easily obtain free service for the inherent defect from their local Apple store or Apple support.

Have you updated your iPad Pro to iOS 9.3.2 yet? If not, as we mentioned, you’ll certainly be better served by holding your horses until further notice.
