Apple users are currently experiencing major issues with the iOS 11.4 software update, reports have specifically noted that the new update has had a negative effect on their battery lifespan.

According to reports, the software update is causing batteries to drain faster than normal, 25 percent faster in some cases.

“My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all” said an anonymous user in Apple’s discussion thread.

“I have the same issue with my 6S+. It was fine before the update. And my battery health is at 90% yet I just watched my battery % drop from 50% to 20% in a matter of minutes while not using it.” said another.

The two-week-old software update problem seems to be affecting devices all across the Apple spectrum including new and old devices. Many users speculate that the background app refresh feature may be to blame for the battery drainage, while others suggest that the switch from 5GHz network to 2.4Ghz may actually be the root of the problem.

How to Fix Battery Issues in iOS 11.4?

Apple has yet to comment as to what is causing the issue or what users can do to fix it. For those lucky enough to have not gone through the update may want to hold on a little longer but for those who did, here are a handful of setting modifications that can help avoid battery drain on the iPhone.

Other Battery Issues

Unfortunately, battery issues keep plaguing the tech giant. Apple is fresh from the iPhone battery and performance debacle that forced the company to speak out and defend themselves over claims that it slowed down older iPhones with flagging batteries.

“First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades” said the official press release regarding the iPhones batteries and performance.

“Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.”

Nevertheless, Apple’s iOS 11 has been one of the most ambitious updates we have seen from the company thus far. The new update introduced some great features that included a redesigned App Store, Camera and Photo quality upgrade but the most impressive was the the addition of advanced augmented reality capabilities.
