Nokia Oyj and T-Mobile on Monday announced that they’ve inked a new “landmark” deal that will see the two companies accelerate the deployment of 5G networks in the U.S.

The Finnish firm won the $3.5 billion order to help build out nationwide 5G grids for T-Mobile, the two firms announced in a press release. It represents one of Nokia’s largest contracts to date. It’s also just the latest sign of where 5G technology is going in the U.S., Bloomberg pointed out.

Nokia will provide T-Mobile — the third largest carrier in the U.S. — with a range of end-to-end 5G technology, software and services.

“We are all in one 5G. Every dollar we spend is a 5G dollar, and our agreement with Nokia underscores the kind of investment we’re making to bring customers a mobile, nationwide 5G network,” T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray said.

The Uncarrier will make use of several products across Nokia’s 5G technology lineup, including commercial AirScale radio platforms, AirFrame hardware, CloudBand software, SON and 5G Acceleration Services.

“Nokia and T-Mobile will advance the large-scale deployment of 5G services throughout the United States,” said Ashish Chowdhary, Chief Customer Operations Officer at Nokia. “This is a testament to our companies’ strong and productive working relationship, one which has produced several important technological milestones in recent months, and which now allows us to make 5G a commercial reality.”

T-Mobile has promised customers that its own 5G networks will launch in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas by early next year. As far as its larger ambitions, the carrier has said it will have a coast-to-coast 5G network in place by 2020.

5G networks are largely expected to revolutionize computing and the internet. T-Mobile and Nokia note that it’ll help foster the development of next-generation technology, from driverless cars to advanced industrial automation.
