The National Football League (NFL), in conjunction with the Microsoft Corporation, launched a little ($400 million) marketing experiment back in 2014. The “experiment” was based on an exclusive partnership in which a slew of tablet computers — Microsoft’s Surface tablet, to be specific — were doled out to the head coaches and some players of teams in the league.

It was a legitimate experiment; with high-hopes that Microsoft’s Surface would somehow streamline operations on the sidelines. But unfortunately, the partnership between the NFL and Microsoft has been riddled with as many, if not more, complications than my old COMPAQ Presario, Windows 98’-running laptop.

“So how is the experiment coming along as of today?” you ask. Well, unfortunately notoriously docile, straight-shooting head coach of the famed New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, is about at his wits end as far as Microsoft’s pride-and-joy tablet is concerned; and he’s apparently eager for the opportunity to get back to his pen, paper, and three-ring binder as soon as possible..

During a press conference held yesterday, Belichick went on an epic, 5-minute tangent about how much he loathed using the devices for work. Indicating that he “just couldn’t deal” with the Surface tablet’s “problems” any longer, Belichick said he’s definitely looking forward to getting rid of the thing.

“As you probably noticed, I’m done with the tablets,” Belichick told the press this afternoon. “There’s just no consistency. I’ve given them as much time as I can give them. I just can’t take it anymore.”

Certainly Belichick isn’t alone in his dissatisfaction, either. As ESPN reported, several notable players — including Aaron Rodgers and Johnny Manziel — have been spotted physically head butting their own Surface tablets on the sidelines of nationally televised NFL games.

As you might imagine, Microsoft was not happy about Belichick’s blatantly negative review of the Redmond, Washing-based PC-maker’s device — and, as such, a company representative provided the following statement to CultofMac shortly after the original story surfaced (no pun intended):

“We respect Coach Belichick’s decision, but stand behind the reliability of Surface. We continue to receive positive feedback on having Surface devices on the sidelines from coaches, players and team personnel across the league. In the instances where sideline issues are reported in NFL games, we work closely with the NFL to quickly address and resolve.”

What do you think about coach Belichick taking the high road and tossing his Microsoft Surface to the wayside?
