This week, Apple announced it’s working on a 10-episode dramatic adaptation of William Gibson’s acclaimed 1984 cyberpunk sci-fi novel Neuromancer.

The new sci-fi series is a co-production between Skydance Television and Anonymous Content. The new series will be created for television by Graham Roland (Dark Winds and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and JD Dillard (The Outsider, Sleight, Devotion). Roland will serve as showrunner and Dillard will direct the pilot episode.

From the Apple TV+ press release:

The series will follow a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+,” said creators and executive producers Roland and Dillard. “Since we became friends nearly 10 years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. ‘Neuromancer’ has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk’ world.”

Neuromancer was Gibson’s first novel and has been hailed as one of the seminal and most respected works in the cyberpunk genre. The novel has received numerous awards, including the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award. Neuromancer proved to be the first book in Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy. The trilogy was filled out by Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive.

In the series, a “super-hacker” named Case finds himself thrust into a world of high-stakes crime and digital espionage. He’s joined by Molly, a “razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.”

The series is just the latest Apple Original series produced by Skydance Television. The production house has also produced Foundation, an epic saga that’s currently in production on its third season; the critically acclaimed The Big Door Prize, which is preparing for its second season; and a recently announced comedy series starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
