The NBC Sports Live Extra channel will air thousands of live events that regularly air on NBC, NBCSN, and the Golf Channel all live on your Apple TV. With popular content such as regular season and NHL playoff games, the PGA Tour and US Open, Notre Dame Football, and Premier League soccer, as well as racing events from Formula One, IndyCar, and the Triple Crown horse races. The channel includes sections for Featured events, Live & Upcoming Events, Highlights, Replays, and Sports.

NBC Sports Live Extra joins the existing ESPN, MLB.TV, NBA, and NFL Now channels on Apple’s streaming set-top, making the Apple TV a viable choice for sports enthusiasts. The bad news for those looking to “cut the cord” from their cable subscription, however, is that the new channel (like several of Apple TV’s other channels) requires proof of an existing cable subscription.

A new Apple TV is expected to debut at the WWDC later this year, featuring an A8 chip, increased storage, Siri capabilities, and HomeKit support. Rumors surrounding a new Apple subscription-based streaming TV service could also be verified at the June event. The Apple TV has been due for an overhaul for quite some time – new hardware and a subscription service could be just what Apple needs to push the Apple TV to mainstream use.
