Apple Releases iOS 12.2 Dev. Beta 4 with These Additional Changes

Apple on Monday seeded the fourth beta version of its upcoming iOS 12.2 software update to registered developers.

At this point, no major design changes or new features have been spotted in the latest iOS 12.2 beta. On the other hand, there have been a couple minor tweaks.

• The Remote icon in the iOS Control Center has been redesigned. It now appears as a remote instead of an Apple TV logo.
• The 10 second skip or rewind options are now back in the Control Center remote. There are also new Apple TV volume control icons.
• The Apple News app icon has been completely redesigned. The more minimal and stylized design features a red N over a white icon.

It’s worth noting that we are a few weeks ahead of a rumored March 25 media event in which Apple may debut new services like an original TV content platform and a premium Apple News subscription service.

The fact that iOS 12.2 beta 4 is so light on changes, especially compared to previous beta builds, also suggests that a full public release may be coming sooner than later.

About iOS 12.2

iOS 12.2 itself is fairly feature-packed for a point release. It introduced four new Animoji characters, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for some smart TVs, an Apple News expansion in Canada, new scheduling controls for Downtime and some AR/VR-focused privacy protections in Safari.

Various design changes were also included in past updates, such as a more streamlined Wallet interface, and new app icons. The Remote widget has also been tweaked in basically every beta release thus far.

Notably, previous beta builds also contained hints at upcoming Apple products — like a rumored refresh to AirPods with Hey Siri support, new iPad models, and the aforementioned services.

iOS 12.2 beta 4 should now be available to download from the Apple Developer Center or as an over-the-air update on devices with the proper configuration profile. A public software testing version should be coming within the next few days.
