Apple’s latest AirPods take the best features of the AirPods Pro and bundles them into a smaller, affordable package. These new AirPods 3 offer one of the most significant changes to the AirPods lineup since it was introduced in 2016.
New Design
As predicted, the AirPods feature an AirPod Pro-inspired design. The new AirPods 3 have a short stem and an earbud designed to slide into your ear. It’s not as bulky as the previous generation model, increasing their overall comfort.
Spatial Audio
Once available only in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, Apple added spatial audio to its regular AirPods 3.
This feature projects audio from all directions providing a dynamic listening environment. It transcends what is available from the simple left and right channels in stereo.
Like the AirPods Pro, the spatial audio in the AirPods 3 adjusts the sound as you move your head.
Adaptive EQ
Once again, Apple borrowed heavily from its premium AirPods Pro when it developed the AirPods 3. The latest AirPods include a new custom distortion driver and adaptive EQ to deliver optimal sound. This adaptive EQ detects your environment and adjusts the sound frequencies you hear to represent the music best.
Battery Life
The new AirPods have a run time of 6 hours on a single charge. If you are in a rush, you can charge them for just five minutes to grab an hour of listening.
The case, equipped with both MagSafe and wireless charging, can provide four more charging cyles while on the go.
With fully charged AirPods and accompanying case, you can get up to 30 hours of listening without having to find an outlet.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirPods 3 will join the lineup and will not replace the Apple AirPods second generation.
The new AirPods 3 will go on starting today with a retail price of $179.
Apple will continue to offer the second generation model as its entry-level AirPods model with a price of $129.
