In an effort to boost in-store phone sales, Apple is expanding their trade-in and recycling program to accept Android phones.

The program will work in a similar fashion to Apple’s current trade-in and recycling program, introduced in late 2013. Apple users could bring in an older-model iPhone, iPad, or Mac laptop or desktop computer, and receive in-store credit based on the phone’s cosmetic and functional condition. Apple also recycles old computers and displays for free via their partnership with Sims Recycling Solutions. With the new program,in place, users of Android phones looking to possibly switch to an iPhone would be able to take advantage of the same benefits.

The release of the iPhone 6 brought the highest rate of Android to Apple switches yet. The new trade-in program is designed to continue to lure more Android users into the Apple ecosystem – one of their most aggressive tactics to date. Employees at Apple Stores are currently being trained to help make the transfer from Android to iPhone a seamless one for prospective buyers by helping them move their contacts to their new device, and providing assistance for email, photos, and other important data, as well.

While there is no set date for the launch of this program, rumor has it that Apple employees are already undergoing training, and it is expected to launch in the very near future.
