You can now buy a refurbished iPhone X directly from Apple at a discount for the first time since the device was released in 2017.

Apple made the device available on Monday on its official Certified Refurbished web page. In the United States, there are both unlocked Space Gray and Silver models available in 64GB and 256GB configurations.

The 64GB models will run you $769, while the 256GB models cost $899 — down from the original $999 and $1,149 price points at the device’s launch. That’s roughly equivalent to the current iPhone X prices you may find at third-party resellers like eBay and Amazon.

Similar options are available in the United Kingdom, with prices starting at £769 for the 64GB models.

iPhone X or iPhone XR?

The base tier refurbished iPhone X devices are only a bit more expensive than the current iPhone XR models. But despite being older, the 2017 iPhone X may actually be a better deal — since it’s a device with a better dual-lens camera setup and a higher resolution OLED display.

It’s also worth noting that this marks the first time any iPhone X model has been available from Apple since the release of the iPhone XS. When Apple debuted its 2018 handsets, it stopped offering the iPhone X in favor of its successor.

Benefits of Buying Refurbished

If you’re skeptical about buying a refurbished device, don’t be. According to Apple, all Certified Refurbished devices are thoroughly inspected, tested and cleaned by the company — the refurbishment process also includes a new battery and outer shell.

Before selling them, Apple repackages each refurbished device in a new box with all of the standard manuals and accessories. Finally, Apple Certified Refurbished come with the firm’s standard one-year warranty. Like with new devices, buyers have the option to extend that to two years with AppleCare+ for an additional fee of $199.

In other words, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a Certified Refurbished and a new device.

Currently, it looks like both colors and configurations are available through Apple’s Certified Refurbished page in the U.S. But stock isn’t guaranteed and may go quickly, so you’ll want to act fast if you have a particular color or storage configuration in mind.
