The recent rumor that Apple may be working on creating an automobile has been causing quite the stir on the internet as of late. Amid rumors that Apple has been “poaching” employees from electric automobile manufacturer Tesla Motors and automobile battery manufacturer A123 Systems, as well as rumors of Apple recruiting hundreds of automobile experts to work on a project in a top-secret facility, buzz surrounding the Apple Car project (codenamed ‘Titan’) is quickly gaining steam. Well, a new trademark filing by Apple may lend more credence to the rumors.

Apple recently expanded their corporate description in Switzerland, adding ‘vehicles’ to their list of products that includes smartphones, tablets, and watches. Although this still doesn’t add any certainty to the Apple Car rumors, as trademark expansions are somewhat commonplace, it adds excitement to the growing gossip.

Many of the Apple Car concepts on the web have gone the “futuristic” route

According to Swiss site Apfelblog, the following paragraph has been added to Apple’s corporate documents by their lawyers:

“Vehicles; Apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water; electronic hardware components for motor vehicles, rail cars and locomotives, ships and aircraft; Anti-theft devices; Theft alarms for vehicles; Bicycles; Golf carts; Wheelchairs; Air pumps; Motorcycles; Aftermarket parts (after-market parts) and accessories for the aforesaid goods.”

While we wouldn’t hold our breath for an Apple-made airplane anytime soon, this filing could suggest that we may, in fact, see an Apple car in the near future
