Believe it or not, there are actually a couple of ways you can charge your iPhone, as long as you have an iPhone 12 or a more recent model.

This is thanks to MagSafe, a feature Apple reintroduced back in 2020. This feature lets you add accessories to the back of your iPhone with the help of magnets.

One of the key accessories is the MagSafe charger, which, as you can guess, lets you charge your iPhone without plugging in your iPhone.

But what happens if you decide to plug in your iPhone, too? Will your iPhone charge faster? Or will something bad happen? Keep reading to find out.

What Happens if You Use a MagSafe Charger and a Charging Cable at the Same Time?

Fortunately, we aren’t the only ones wondering about this. As it turns out, there have been people who have tried it.

The folks at iDeviceHelp decided to test this on their YouTube channel a couple of years ago, and the results are what you might expect.

Unfortunately, according to the video, plugging in your iPhone via the Lightning port and then using a MagSafe charger will only cause your iPhone to choose the Lightning connector and completely ignore MagSafe.

The same is true with standard non-MagSafe Qi wireless chargers. It seems your iPhone is programmed to always choose the faster source of electricity, which should always be the Lightning or USB-C connector. Overall, it’s the most secure charging method, so it makes sense why the iPhone would prefer it.

Is It Safe to Use a MagSafe Charger and a Charging Cable at the Same Time?

So, your iPhone won’t charge any faster, and nothing out of the ordinary will happen, but is it safe to do it?

Well, usually, Apple has the best answer for this, but the company’s official website doesn’t say that this is dangerous for you or your iPhone.

The website only mentions what we already know, which is that “if your iPhone is connected to both a MagSafe Charger and power via a Lightning port, your iPhone will charge via the Lightning connector.”

So, while there’s no point in using two charging methods at the same time, it seems it’s not dangerous to do. So, if you want to run your own tests, feel free to try it out.

Charge Your iPhone Properly

Now you know that using your MagSafe charger and charging cable at the same time does absolutely nothing to your iPhone. You can try it for yourself and see that your iPhone will not charge any faster.

OF course, that should be the only charging experiment you do. Remember that your iPhone’s battery ages over time, so the less you mess with it, the better.

Instead, try charging your iPhone properly and use the safest ways to make your iPhone’s battery last as long as possible.
