Starbucks released their new iPhone app yesterday, featuring an enhanced menu including calorie information, bug and stability fixes, and most importantly, Apple Pay support.

When Apple Pay was introduced this past October, Starbucks was listed as a participating partner. However, Apple Pay support wasn’t actually available until yesterday, when the company released their latest iPhone app. While iPhone users are still unable to use Apple Pay for their coffee at the register, they can now use the service to add credit to their Starbucks card via the app. Although perhaps not quite as exciting as the ability to use Apple Pay at the register, the app does make the process of adding credit to your Starbucks card much easier – all it requires is your fingerprint for authentication. The process is fast, simple, and easy.

Starbucks chief digital officer Adam Brotman has stated in the past that they are seriously considering adding NFC capabilities for in-store purchases, but no time line has been set yet. As the popularity of Apple Pay increases, there should be no doubt that we will see the feature implemented sooner rather than later.

Starbucks App is Free at the iTunes Store
