Spotify, the popular music streaming app, recently released an update for iOS users. The service, which launched in 2008, streams a catalog of over 20,000,000 songs of varying genres to over 60,000,000 users worldwide. The new update features new touch and gesture controls that make listening and setting up playlists more intuitive.

The latest Spotify update includes a new “Touch Preview” function. While sorting through tracks, you can touch and hold on the title to hear a short preview. If you’re already listening to music, the Touch Preview function will pause the track you’re currently listening to, play the preview, and resume playing when you let go of the preview track (or you can tap it to play the track).

Also added to the latest update are gesture controls. While a track is playing, you can now “swipe” left to add the song to your “My Music” collection. Or, if you simply want to add the song to your play queue, you can swipe right. Both the Touch Preview and swipe gestures are very useful features (especially for creating playlists), and we’re excited to see what other features Spotify comes up with for future versions.

Spotify version 2.3.0 is available free at the App Store.
