Social media platforms are a dime a dozen these days and there are probably a lot more coming our way. Whether you want to watch funny videos, read people’s opinions, or just look at pretty pictures, there’s already a social media platform ready for you to try out. But now, there’s a new player in town, a social media platform that seeks the truth and nothing but the truth – and the weirdest part is that a former president of the United States started this social media platform. Here’s what you need to know about Truth Social, the new social media platform backed by Donald Trump.

Why Does Truth Social Exist?

Truth Social is probably Donald Trump’s response to how social media platforms have treated him. Back when he was president, he was very active on Twitter. He loved the platform so much that he reportedly Tweeted over 20,000 Tweets during his presidency.

It wasn’t until the beginning of 2021 that Twitter decided to ban the @RealDonaldTrump Twitter account because of a couple of Tweets that could be related to the people who violently stormed the Capitol back on January 6, 2021.

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.Twitter

Instead of searching for another type of social media platform, as most of us would do, former President Donald Trump took it to the next level and decided to create his own social media platform.

Fast forward one year later, and Truth Social came to life. The platform became available on February 21, 2022. Right on time for Presidents’ Day. Coincidence? I think not!

Truth Social — Follow the Truth!

Truth Social is a new social media platform backed by former President Donald Trump.

This platform exists to “let your voice be heard,” as the App Store’s description says. It does this by welcoming different opinions around different points of view of the world, whether they are political or about pretty much anything.

Truth Social is America’s “Big Tent” social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.TruthSocial.com

The platform’s main goal is all about the truth, and it takes it quite seriously. At its core, the app could be compared to Twitter. Meaning it’s a place where you can follow people, check their posts and interact with them.

The first difference you’ll see is that facing the truth, it’s the sole approach of the website. Instead of posting Tweets or Retweeting something, you can post a Truth or Re-Truth a Truth. Yes, it sounds a bit silly, and no, we’re not kidding.

The Hard Truth Behind Truth Social

Regardless of your political views, having a place to share your thoughts and opinions and find like-minded people sounds awesome, right?

Unfortunately, for Truth Social, there are already a ton of places you can already do that, like Twitter which is still a big platform.

A lot of people who have already used Truth Social have found that there aren’t a lot of people to interact with. Overall, you won’t find many Truths to Re-Truth, so the site is still pretty inactive at the time. Of course, that could change in the future, but people have mostly found accounts of Trump supporters and trolls, which, to be fair, you can also find on Twitter.

One thing you cannot find on Twitter, though, it’s the @realDonaldTrump Truth Social account, which is pretty much the first person that appears when you’re looking for people to follow.

You can also find other accounts like the NFL, DailyMail, and military accounts, but some of these accounts are nothing but bots that post Truths based on RSS feeds, so there really isn’t much engagement on the platform yet.

What’s Next for the Truth?

Truth Social is but one of Trump’s platforms to face the Big Tech monopoly, as he claims. However, the former president also created the Trump Media & Technology Group, or TMTG for short, in hopes to “fight back against the ‘Big Tech’ companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.” TMTG also wants to stop political discrimination and cancel “cancel culture.”

And they hope to achieve this with the help of different platforms. One is Truth Social which is already available. However, there are also plans to launch a TMTG+ platform, which it’s meant to be a streaming platform that’ll compete against other streaming giants like Netflix and Disney+.

On top of that, there’s also TMTG News, a platform that, as you can probably guess, it’s meant to stream news and compete against CNN and other news platforms.

Other than Truth Social, all TMTG platforms are still in the works, so we’ll still have to wait and see how well they’ll turn out to be.

Will You Use Truth Social?

As of right now, Truth Social is already available on truthsocial.com and on the App Store. This platform isn’t yet available on Android devices or outside of the United States, but that’s supposedly going to change in the future.

It seems like the first-ever social media platform created by a former US president is here to stay, albeit it has had a rough start. We’ll still have to see how well it performs in the future when it becomes more popular.

Regardless of your political views, you can still join and try out Truth Social for yourself. The platform is free to use, and you can start posting as many Truths as you’d like.

Who knows, maybe that’ll be your next social media platform of choice. One thing’s for sure, though; this isn’t the last time we hear about Donald Trump and the TMTG’s search for truth.
