Joining the ever-expanding consortium of app offerings from the Walt Disney Company this week is an entirely new mobile messaging experience for people of (essentially) all ages, which the Burbank, California-based animated film and entertainment-giant is calling Mix.

Sure, given the litany of messaging apps already available in the app store, you might be quick to wonder why on Earth we need another mobile messaging platform for, right? However, Disney’s Mix app actually makes a pretty good attempt at bringing a rich messaging experience for youngsters, their friends, and families to the iOS and Android platforms.

Built around the clever yet simple and straightforward philosophy of “chat, share, and play,” Disney Mix is intended for children as young as four — and, equally so, the die-hard Disney-obsessed adults among us — to stay connected, share content, and even play any of the app’s many built-in games with their friends and family.

What’s sure to please all you die-hard Disney fans, Mix also includes access to a multitude of stickers, avatars, and motion picture-centric games based on pretty much every Disney and Pixar production ever to have graced the big screen; and for parents, Mix also boasts a heaping dose of security features designed to keep the conversation G-rated at all times.

Below is a snippet from Disney’s official Mix press release:

“Disney Mix is a social messaging app where friends can chat, share, and play in a whole new way! Get creative and express yourself using some favorite Disney and Pixar characters like Flash from Zootopia, Hank from Finding Dory, Jenny from Adventures in Babysitting, Danny from Future-Worm!, and more! Add Disney Channel, Disney, and Disney Movies to your Friends List and receive the latest videos and photos directly from them. Personalize an avatar, chat with friends, play games, make memes, and send funny stickers and sounds… Do it all in one place with Disney Mix!”

Sounds quite promising, if you ask me — especially for those who simply can’t get enough of that Disney and Pixar goodness in their lives. But what’s perhaps most appealing (at least for parents), is the Mix app’s many security measures designed to keep your children safe while using it.

While users are reminded to keep their conversations respectful and free of socially inappropriate riffraff, as Engadget notes, Mix also features a handy little whistle icon located at the top of each chat conversation. Once pressed, the whistle sends a shout out to an adult moderator, who, at their discretion, can then step in and try to mitigate the issues, if necessary.

Pretty sweet for a free app, don’t you think? You can download Mix now from the Apple App or Google Play Stores.
