Apple News Will Feature Real-Time Election Night Results on Nov. 6

Apple wants its News app to be the one-stop shop when it comes to getting real-time election results on Nov. 6, TechCrunch reported.

Apple is reportedly developing a new Election Night section to replace the Midterm Elections section on its proprietary Apple News app.

At 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Nov. 6, that section will replace the Digest tab on the bottom-center of the app.

Apple is partnering with the Associated Press to get real-time election results for the service, since the AP has a solid track record of tracking election results.

The Apple News Election Night section will automatically refresh about every minute or so. Users will also be able to refresh the results themselves.

As far as the actual section, it will use a series of infographics that will help users track live results, key race updates, developments and other data.

The Election Night tab will be broken down into various categories, including a Key Races section that will offer infographics on House, Senate or Gubernatorial seats.

A developments tab will feature the latest breaking news and other news stories related to election night.

These headlines will be sources form a variety of news organizations, including CNN, Fox News, CBS, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Axios and Politico.

CNN, Fox News and CBS will also contribute special election night video clips. Better yet, users won’t need a TV or cable subscription to watch those clips.

If the balance of power shifts in either the Senate or House, Apple News will automatically inform users via a pop-up notification and alert at the top of the screen, according to TechCrunch.

Lastly, Apple is hoping to bring a special touch to election night news with full human curation, unlike other popular platforms where people get their news — like Facebook, Twitter and Google.

That has been a key differentiator between Apple News and social media platforms since Apple priorities human curation done by real editors and former journalists rather than algorithms.
