The smart phone has certainly changed photography. Many people would argue for the better. One thing is for sure – it’s certainly more convenient. Everyone with an iPhone has a camera in their pocket all the time. Long gone are the days of the disposable plastic camera you bought at the drug store for $3, and the stacks of photos stored in shoeboxes or office drawers. However, in a sense, that takes some of the fun away from snapping photos.

White Album, an iPhone app from developers Mint Digital, looks to change all of that. White Album allows you to snap a roll’s worth of photos (24, to be exact), and get them “developed” – once your roll is done, you pay $20 and receive a package in the mail full of high-quality prints of the photos you shot. No, your narcissistic side can’t view the photos after snapping them and delete the ones you don’t like. No, you can’t edit them, either. And that’s why this app is so much fun. There’s something much more gratifying and permanent about sticking with your 24 photos, and receiving real photos you can hold in your hands. Who knows where your latest Instagram photo will be in 20 years? But it certainly will be fun to find a shoebox full of real photos in 20 years to sort through.

White Album may not be for everyone, but for the nostalgic folks among us, this app is a real treat. Download it free at the App Store, and start snapping!
