The first Apple TV refresh since 2012 is almost here, and most of its features have already been revealed. With a faster and more efficient A8 processor, 4K video support, large internal storage, Siri integration, dedicated app store, and new remote with Nintendo Wii-like motion sensing capabilities, the device is certainly intriguing.

However, one important question remains that still hasn’t been answered – how much will it cost?071415-APPLETVSERVICEMOVINGFORWARD-2

When Apple reduced the price of the third-generation Apple TV to $69 this past March, Apple added the words “starting at” to the Apple TV’s webpage. Obviously, the term “starting at” indicates that a more expensive option will be available. According to 9to5Mac, Apple will continue to sell the third-generation Apple TV, and will offer the new Apple TV 4 for an increased price.

How much will that price be? Well, the answer varies depending on who you ask, but will sit below $200. According to 9to5Mac, “Apple executives are apparently still finalizing the price of the revamped living room device, but the latest options call for a starting price point of either $149 or $199, both higher than the third-generation Apple TV.”apple_tv_rumor_roundup_3

The Apple TV’s hardware upgrades are certainly impressive, and will likely warrant the inflated price tag. However, much of the buzz surrounding the Apple TV refresh has been about Apple’s oft-rumored subscription TV service. The service, which would offer a “skinny bundle” of popular channels streamed to a variety of Apple devices (including the Apple TV) for a low monthly cost, has been delayed several times now.

According to 9to5Mac, the service, when it finally becomes available, will operate on the third-generation Apple TV as well as the new set top box. “According to our sources, the software update that enables Apple’s cable-replacement service is currently planned to also become available for the third-generation Apple TV.” Both devices will also likely receive support for Apple Music, Apple’s popular new music streaming service. However, the dedicated App Store, Siri functionality, and the new remote will likely be Apple TV 4 exclusives.

Apple's New TV Service Will Feature All of Your Favorite Networks plus More

The new Apple TV will be introduced at Apple’s September 9th event, which will also see the debut of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Reports around the web state that the device will be available for purchase sometime in October.
