Apple TV’s new sci-fi drama Pluribus premieres this Friday. The widely anticipated series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan stars Better Call Saul alumna Rhea Seehorn as Carol, “the most miserable person on Earth,” who must save the world from a sinister happiness pandemic infecting everyone but her.

Apple has been promoting the series extensively. As part of that promotional blitz, MacTrast reports that Apple has launched an official companion podcast for Pluribus — its first in-house podcast production in years.

Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) has occasionally released companion podcasts for some of its original programming, such as Foundation. However, others — like the one for Severance — have been produced by third-party podcast networks.

This time around, Pluribus: The Official Podcast will be produced in-house by Apple itself. As you might imagine, this gives its producers better access to information about the series, meaning it will feature behind-the-scenes discussions with the creative team behind the sci-fi drama. According to Apple’s official podcast description:

Join Pluribus editor and host Chris McCaleb, along with members of the cast and crew, for an inside look at the making of the new Apple Original series. Each week, Chris leads a roundtable discussion of the latest episode with a mix of folks who brought the show to life: writers, directors, actors, and—of course—creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan and star Rhea Seehorn.

Pluribus will premiere this Friday, November 7, on Apple TV. New episodes of the podcast will drop alongside the show each week.

Apple clearly has confidence in Pluribus, as the streaming service has already picked up the series for a second season, even though the first episode of the series has yet to drop.

While no one outside of the production truly knows what will happen on Pluribus, Apple has shared several mysterious clips from the show to tease it to potential viewers.

Curiously, if you dial 202-808-3981, you’ll hear a cryptic automated message tied to the show, which also includes an option to sign up for promotional text messages from Apple TV. The initial text is the standard “reply YES to sign up for updates” confirmation text, but with a slight twist. The first line of the text reads: “Please know your life is your own, Carol. You have agency!”

Since Pluribus creator Vince Gilligan was also involved with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul — two of the most popular TV shows in recent memory — anticipation is high that Pluribus will be the next “must-watch” TV series from Apple TV, joining other hits like Ted Lasso, Severance, and The Studio. With Gilligan and Seehorn at the helm, that certainly seems likely.
