We’ve heard a number of rumors about a supposed ‘iPhone 7 Pro’ lately, which several leakers and analysts have speculated would be touching down alongside the standard ‘iPhone 7’ and premium ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ this fall. To that effect, we’ve also heard even more questionable reports suggesting that Apple might be rebranding the iPhone, altogether, for this year’s highly anticipated launch.

However, according to the most recent mumblings from the rumor mill, it appears that the Cupertino-company will instead be maintaining its traditional numbering patterns for the forthcoming iPhone — with this year’s flagships, as we’ve expected, poised to be unveiled as the ‘iPhone 7’ and ‘iPhone 7 Plus’. And that’s all she wrote!

The report comes to us this morning courtesy of popular Japanese blog, Macotokara, and cites “reliable sources with knowledge of Apple’s imminent plans.”

What lends a bit of extra credence to this report, however, especially in contrast to others that have surfaced in recent months, is that the source cited by Macotokara has been historically accurate when it comes to predicting iPhone-naming patterns. For instance, back in 2013, and earlier this year, the source was able to correctly identify the iPhone 5c (as Apple’s budget friendly, colorful handset), as well as the iPhone SE (as a 2016-spec’d-out 4-incher), respectively — which both ultimately made it to market bearing those exact monikers.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it would also mean that Apple’s all-new, super-sophisticated dual-lens camera will most certainly be destined for the larger, 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ — as opposed to there being two variants of said device released, as has also been speculated in recent months.

We still have no official word, unfortunately, in regards to when the ‘iPhone 7’ duo will be touching down. However, if history has taught us anything, it’s that the launch will more than likely take place within the first few weeks of September. As a matter of fact, September 7th has been floated as a possible release date, while, just two days later — on Friday, September 9th, it’s rumored that Apple will officially be opening up pre-orders to the public.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted on the actual date when it surfaces, as well as provide live coverage of the release event!
