A sketchy new video that’s making the rounds ostensibly shows off an iPhone SE 2 sporting some “modern iPhone” design features.

The clip, which was spotted by Mac Otakara, first surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo. The Weibo user who posted the 30-second video says it shows off Apple’s new design for the rumored successor to the popular iPhone SE model.

It depicts what appears to be a 4-inch iPhone device with a relatively boxy and thick form factor.

It seems to sport extremely slim bezels, an iPhone X-style sensor notch, and even a dual-lens camera setup on the rear. Even its version of “iOS” uses the new gesture-based controls to unlock the device.

But while the video looks pretty realistic, there are several reasons to be fairly suspicious of it.

For one, Apple has taken to reserving the dual-lens camera setup for its premium devices. Currently, that only includes Plus-model iPhones and the iPhone X. To use that camera kit on an entry-level iPhone seems is a bit too good to be true.

Additionally, the Lock icon on the iPhone’s display remains “locked” when the user goes to the Home screen. If the device was using Face ID — presumably, how the user “unlocked” the device in the video — then the Lock icon would switch unlocked before the phone could be opened.

Even something as subtle as the double-tap to wake is a bit off. On the iPhone X, iOS only needs a single tap to wake up the display. Newer versions of Android, on the other hand, has a double-tap to wake setting built-in.

Basically, the device in the video is likely an Android device cleverly made to look like an iPhone — complete with a version of Android mocked up to look like Apple’s mobile operating system.

To be fair, rumors have suggested that Apple could be developing a successor to the iPhone SE. While some analysts have cast doubt on those rumors, it’s still very much within the realm of possibility.

On the other hand, those rumors directly conflict with the device shown in the video. The so-called iPhone SE 2 is meant to be a lower-cost device which is unlikely to sport newer or premium iPhone features like wireless charging, Face ID, or a dual-lens camera setup.
