For quite some time, speculations about the Apple Watch 2, (including a slimmed-down design, to the possibility of tether-free functionality, and so much more) having been churning in the rumor mill for the last few months.

However, according to an even newer rumor out of Apple’s Far East supply chain, the Silicon Valley tech-giant and its suppliers are gearing up to launch the device, perhaps sooner than we think — with current orders for the refreshed wearable already far exceeding the capacities of Apple’s own product suppliers.

According to a recent DigiTimes report, the Cupertino-company is ready to employ a “rather aggressive” strategy with its 2nd generation wearable; and suppliers are adamant that — with Apple’s current pace of ordering — the company could potentially be looking to ship upwards of 2 million Apple Watch 2 units per month.

The DigiTimes report also notes that Apple has already begun purchasing a variety of components — such as chipsets, displays, and batteries — for the Apple Watch 2; and that, all variables notwithstanding, the device should begin shipping to consumers by the end of the 3rd quarter (which runs from July through September, 2016).

Historically speaking, DigiTimes hasn’t always been the most trusted source when it comes to reporting about Apple’s imminent product plans. However they have, in the past, made accurate predictions about component orders for future devices.

As we mentioned in our previous write-up, the Apple Watch 2 is largely expected to maintain similar design aesthetics as the first generation Watch — while possibly slimming down by as much as 40% in thickness, among other things.

Also, at the company’s March 21st “Let Us Loop You In” media event, Apple reduced the price of its 1st generation Watch by $50 — which is yet another potential clue that a refresh of the device is imminent.
