By all reports, we’re less than two months away from Apple’s big fall iPhone event, and this year’s could be a more momentous one than we’ve seen in a while. After four years of relatively iterative design improvements, punctuated only by the appearance of the iPhone mini and later iPhone Plus models, Apple is set to shake things up in a bigger way with this year’s iPhone 17 lineup.

If the rumors are accurate, the only 2025 model that won’t be seeing noticeable design changes is the standard iPhone 17, but that’s likely because it got its big change in last year’s iPhone 16, moving to a pill-shaped dual-camera array that felt like a nod to the iPhone XS era.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to abandon the now-iconic square camera bump in favor of a full-width camera bar that maintains the same triangle triple-lens configuration but moves the LED flash and LiDAR Scanner over to the opposite edge.

Then there’s the model that could turn out to be the dark horse in this race: the much-rumored “iPhone 17 Air.” After five attempts to produce alternative-sized iPhones — two iPhone mini and three iPhone Plus models — Apple has decided to go in a much more courageous direction and slim the iPhone down along its Z axis instead.

While the rumor mill has already given us a pretty solid idea of what these new models will look like, well-known leaker Sonny Dickson has just given us our best look yet, thanks to photos of dummy casts of all four models shared on Bluesky and X.

The iPhone 17 Pro colors line up with other reports we’ve seen in recent weeks, particularly one from Dickson earlier this month that hinted at this color from a set of camera lens protectors, and a report from Macworld that confirmed the new shades right down to their official Pantone colors.

While there’s no guarantee that the four models shown represent all the possible colors, there’s one missing from the Dickson and Macworld predictions, which had expected the orange and dark blue to be joined by some variations of black, white, and gray. Meanwhile, leaker Majin Bu had predicted there would only be four, although they named those as black and silver, while these photos seem to lean more toward white for the brighter neutral. Then again, only Apple knows what it’s actually going to be called.

For the iPhone 17, there’s a pink among the dummy units that we haven’t heard much about, along with a light blue and the usual pair of black and white neutrals. The “iPhone 17 Air” appears to set itself apart by sharing the blue shade, which has been referred to as “Sky Blue” by leakers, and replacing the pink with gold. Dickson also suggested a green model, which was left out of the original photos, but shared in a follow-up tweet.

The other thing that’s perhaps the most interesting here is that the so-called “iPhone 17 Air” (we still don’t know for sure that’s what Apple will call it) was expected to have a footprint closer to the iPhone Plus models, with a screen in the 6.6-inch range. However, Dickson’s photos show something much closer to the iPhone 17. Granted, that model is supposed to grow to 6.3 inches, and it’s possible that smaller bezels could still give the “Air” model a larger screen, but the overall dimensions don’t appear to be much larger.

Still, the magic of the iPhone Air is that it will reportedly be only 5.5 mm thick. Apple will need to make some compromises to get there, and most analysts and leakers believe that means it will only sport one camera. The jury is out on other specs, with some suggesting it will lean more toward its higher-end siblings with an A19 Pro chip and possibly even a high-quality ProMotion display, while others expect it to be little more than a slimmer version of the iPhone 17.

Nevertheless, the iPhone 17 is also expected to get a faster 120 Hz display, so the “iPhone 17 Air” should get at least that. However, it’s unclear whether it will have the same capabilities as the iPhone 17 Pro display, where Apple may still reserve features like variable brightness and a full range of variable refresh rates for its higher-end models.

As with most leaks and rumors, it’s best to look at these latest photos with some skepticism. Most significantly, while Dickson has an excellent track record for leaks like this, it’s important to remember that what he’s sharing here are dummy units that are created by accessory manufacturers like case makers. They’re made from CAD drawings and specs supplied by Apple, so they’re usually pretty accurate, but there’s still no guarantee that the final iPhone 17 models will look like this.

That’s especially true when it comes to the colors, which are often interpreted from descriptions provided by Apple, and can look different in photos based on lighting and materials. The leak of the specific Pantone colors this year suggests that what we’re seeing is closer than ever, but last year’s Desert Titanium still turned out to be quite different from the more bronzy-brown iPhone 16 Pro that was shown in the weeks leading up to its release.
