Leaks Claim a New, Flatter, and More Colorful MacBook Air Is in the Works

We’ve been hearing many leaks lately about a new MacBook that Apple’s supposedly working on right now. However, it wasn’t until this week that we had an idea of what this new MacBook might actually look like. And by the looks of it, it’s going to be thin and colorful.
Recently, leaker Jon Prosser published a video stating that one of his sources showed him what the new MacBook is going to look like.
He claims he managed to get actual images of a new blue MacBook, however, Prosser didn’t share the real images of the new MacBook in an effort to protect his sources.
He did, however, create renders of the new MacBook for us to get an idea of the new design (shown below.)
Is Apple Working on a New MacBook Air?
Although Prosser, or his source, doesn’t know which MacBook Apple’s working on, it seems to be a MacBook Air based on the rendered images. This is mostly because of how thin the MacBook is and because it only comes with two ports like the current MacBook Air.
The new MacBook’s design looks to be a lot thinner than the current MacBook Air and it seems this new MacBook will feature a flatter-edged design compared to the current generation MacBook Air. Usually, the Air models feature tapered edges to make them as thin as possible. This time, it seems Apple will produce a flat design with a body that’s almost as thin as its USB-C ports.
As mentioned previously, this new MacBook will only have two ports, like the current MacBook Air. What’s different is that this new MacBook will come with one port on each side. Internally, the new MacBook is said to feature a brand new Apple silicon chip. Rumors say that Apple is working on a new M2 chip that will be featured in the also rumored 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Another noticeable change from the renders is that the new MacBooks would come with white bezels around the display and a white keyboard. We don’t know the exact size of the bezels, so keep in mind that they could be thinner or thicker than in the renders.
Last but not least, colors. Much like the 2021 iMac, it seems that Apple will add colors to this new MacBook as well. Prosser said that the new MacBook would come in at least blue and green. He also noted the new colors would resemble the 2021 iMac’s stand instead of the back.
When Is the New MacBook Air Coming Out?
Whether this ends up being a new MacBook Air, or an entirely different model, don’t expect it any time soon. Prosser’s sources claim we might not see this MacBook this year, which makes sense since Apple just released new M1 MacBooks in November of last year. But if we do see it, we should expect it around the end of the year.
Although Jon Prosser hasn’t always been right with the news and leaks he shares, his renders seem to be quite accurate. He’s the one that first showed a rendered image of what the AirTags would look like months before Apple finally announced them. That said, we won’t know anything for certain about this MacBook until Apple shows it off.
