While we’re waiting with bated breath for the release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the new iPhones aren’t the only flagship smartphones being released this year. Samsung is set to take the wraps off of the Galaxy Note 6 sometime later this year, and if leaked specs are anything to go by, the device could give the next iPhone a run for its money.

In fact, many of the specs seem to line up pretty neatly with what we expect from the next iPhone. For example, Apple is said to be looking into introducing an OLED display on the next generation of iPhones, a decision that some suggest is well past due. Either that, or the OLED display could appear on a mysterious device called the iPhone 7 Pro, which has also been the subject of recent rumors. Still, both the iPhone 7 Plus and the Galaxy Note 6 will include displays in the range of 5.5-inches to 5.7-inches. Both of the aforementioned displays will likely feature OLED or Super AMOLED technology.

One thing that does set the Galaxy Note 6 apart from any likely iPhone release is the stylus. Believe it or not, however, some rumors suggest that an iPhone 7 Pro release could come with a stylus of some kind, whether it be the Apple Pencil or something a little sleeker and easier to use with the mobile device, a decision that would surely cause Steve Jobs to roll over in his grave.

Apart from these things, the Galaxy Note 6 is likely to be a formidable device indeed. The device is set to include a 2K display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, or an Exynos 8890 Octa-core processor, as well as a whopping 6GB of RAM. The rear-facing camera will be 12MP, with the ability to record 4K video, and the front-facing camera will be 5MP. Internal storage options include 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, with a microSD card slot to expand on the storage. It’s important to note that these specs are not yet official, but are quite likely considering the number of Galaxy Note 6-related leaks floating around the internet.

Still, there are a number of things that will give the iPhone value over the Galaxy Note 6. For example, it’s unlikely that the Galaxy Note 6 will be as sleek and stylish as the iPhone. iPhones are known for their beautiful design, an important aspect considering how often we use our smartphones these days.

Of course, there’s another thing that gives the iPhone an edge for some people. While it would be pointless to get into an iOS vs Android debate here and now, the fact is that many people prefer iOS. No matter how powerful the specs of the Galaxy Note 6 are, it’s unlikely that the device will be able to lure too many people away from using an iPhone, especially long-time users who are used to iOS and how easily it works.

Still, it would certainly be interesting to see Apple release an ‘iPhone 7 Pro’ to attempt to compete with high-spec devices like the Galaxy Note 6. Apple has long operated with a ‘one size fits all’ attitude, and that has largely worked for the company. Despite this, Apple is looking to expand, not just retain, its user base and that means creating slightly different devices to suit different lifestyles.

Still, it’s totally possible that an iPhone Pro isn’t in the works at all – if not, the iPhone 7 Plus is sure to be able to hold its own against the Galaxy Note 6.
