It appears as if the ‘iPhone 7’ rumor mill is just going to keep on churning as we progress into the new year, as the latest report — courtesy of the Chinese media site MyDrivers — is claiming that Apple’s impending, hotly anticipated, 10th generation revision of the flagship handset will feature not only a 256 GB storage option, but also a whopping 3,100 mAh battery pack.

It’s already expected that the ‘iPhone 7’ will boast major external and internal hardware changes and upgrades, however this new rumor, if indeed it comes to play, means that Apple is delivering quite the one-two punch on the feature front.

iDrop_iPhone7Rumors256GBBattery_01Just for comparison purposes, the current 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus features a 2,750 mAh battery. So while 3,100 isn’t necessary a groundbreaking advance, we’ll still gladly take all the extra juice Apple is willing to throw our way, right?

Battery life has been a major complaint from many users of the iPhone, and while the 10% jump from 2,750 mAh to 3,100 mAh appears paltry when you punch the numbers, it’s important to note that chipsets and other internal components tend to become more power efficient, year over year — so the increase would be greatly appreciated by all means.

Unfortunately, however, the MyDrives report doesn’t provide any specific details on the 4.7-inch model battery, which, historically speaking, tends to run much lower than its 5.5-inch counterpart (the iPhone 6s features just 1,715 mAh, for instance). So we’ll just have to wait until more details begin to emerge about the Plus model’s younger brother.

Meanwhile, the increase in storage is an interesting tidbit, especially because most users have griped about Apple’s low storage capacities — specifically, the 16 GB model — for quite some time. Moreover, an increase in storage to 256 GB could possibly signify a broader increase in storage capacity across the board.

Additionally, if Apple does, indeed, increase the storage capacity of the iPhone 7 Plus, it’s only reasonable to assume that the company might shift capacities from bottom to top — meaning, perhaps, that 64 GB/128 GB and 256 GB becomes the new norm … Of that we can only dream, right?

It’s also important to note that the MyDrives report explicitly states that the storage increase only applies to the iPhone 7 Plus, and not the smaller, 4.7-inch variant. And also, we recommend that you take this report with a grain of salt, for now, as the origin site has a notoriously sketchy track record.

If accurate, however, the rumor would mean that Apple has effectively addressed two of the most prominent issues that iPhone users tend to complain about.

In any case, we expect the rumor mill to keep spinning, full speed ahead, as we progress into the new year and inch our way closer to the almost inevitable fall launch of Apple’s next flagship.

So what do you think about the latest report?
